The first phase of the rejuvenation work included the construction of a grand water cascade sitting centrally in the axis of the 250 year old grade I listed garden.

The design concept was for a sandstone clad structure down which water would flow over a system of weirs and pools.  The initial proposals called for the inner face of the concrete to be coated with a black epoxy resin.  Whilst this would provide a durable, waterproof system that would disguise the underlying concrete, it would not
enhance the appearance.

After further discussion the idea of casting coloured, waterproof concrete against a flexible formliner was adopted.  By using HATCRETE Colourmix specially colour matched to the local stone, and formliners emulating the outer natural stone, it was possible to produce an extremely realistic and aesthetically pleasing result.

The completed project was awarded the prestigious concrete construction award.
