13/2/2012 Plasterboard re-use & recycling helps Brighton council

Plasterboard recycling is one of the reasons that Brighton council has been shortlisted for an RTPI award

Brighton and Hove council have been shortlisted for an RTPI (Royal Town Planning Institute's) award for working with contsruction companies to cut their waste.

The re-use of materials such as platerboard, timber, metal and cardboard has been promoted. Any such materials that cannot be re-used can then be recycled.

The council have acknowledged that working closely with construction companies as well as skip companies has allowed them to increase the rate of plasterboard recycling that they undertake.

As with any gypsum recycling schemes such moves are win-win as they help the end client reduce their platerboard disposal costs whilst improving the environment.

Many of the materials handled will be processed and re-used, failing that they will be utlised in landscaping rather than traditional landfill.
