Site Waste Managment Plans or SWMP's require companies to show a valid disposal or recycling route for waste plasterboard.
What Are Site Waste management Plans? Site Waste Management Plans (SWMP’s) aim to reduce the amount of waste produced on construction sites and prevent fly-tipping. An SWMP is a document which identifies all wastes produced on site including those created by sub contractors. It must show that provisions have been made to ensure on site waste is being properly dealt with. Plans to reduce the amount of waste created must also be laid out. From April 2008 any construction projects with a value of between £250’000 and £500’000 will require a standard SWMP. Projects with a value in excess of £500’000 will require a detailed site waste management plan. Local authorities and the Environment Agency will enforce SWMPs and they will impose penalties for failure to make, keep or produce a SWMP*. Modern building techniques mean a great deal of the waste produced on site today is plasterboard waste. Roy Hatfield Ltd can provide a recycling service for this material providing a solution for large amounts of on site waste at a lower cost than landfill. *www.netregs.co.uk
